Mother's Day Coffee Cozy

Since my mama is actually the best mother in the world (sorry to all other moms), I decided to send her something fun for Mother's Day!
This post is a little late - but I had to wait until she'd received it so that I wouldn't spoil the surprise.
At the special request of her and her workmates in this post, I made them some coffee cozies :)

The one with the buttons is my favourite! That's for my mama :)

Best Friend Birthday Gift

I LOVE my bestie.
Love. Love. Love her.
She has been my friend for 20+ years, and was my Maid of Honor when I got married.
(And actually.. probably was the best maid of honor in the history of the gig)
We grew up close to each other, but now we live 3 provinces away and only see each other a couple of times a year *tear*.

The hardest thing about being so far away is that we no longer get to celebrate all of our birthdays, holidays, and accomplishments in person with one another.
A phone call is just not suffice all the time.
We still do our best to call and send a little something, but you often end up paying more for the shipping (darn Canada Post!) than you do for the gift itself when you mail anything.

So I thought... what can I buy/make that meets all my criteria:
1. Thoughtful
2. Not too heavy to send by mail
3. Homemade (if possible)

So here's what I came up with... I bought a lightweight coffee mug, and filled it with chocolate, teas and a starbucks gift card. Then I crocheted some lovely coffee cozies for her mug :)
Plus the homemade card with a picture from my wedding day [but that's a given with me...lol].
Ta-Da!

Love you times a million!

Horray! Crochet!

As if I don't have enough hobbies already... my knitting inspired me to try crocheting as well! And I'm loving it! It's so fun. I wanted to try crocheting as soon as I had picked up knitting needles. There are so many inspirational crafts that I can make using both crocheting and knitting. Sometimes things just look better when they're crocheted. And sometimes they look better when knit. I just couldn't limit myself to only one skill!

So I picked up the crocheting book that I got from my Daddy for Christmas (I may have put a hint in his ear... ) and I began to teach myself! It's really not that hard... there are only 5 major stitches to learn, and they are all very similar. It takes less time then knitting too! I can whip up a crocheted dishcloth in half of time of a knitted one.

So here are some of the projects I started...

I used this video tutorial to learn how to crochet the hearts.

I used this video tutorial to learn how to crochet the coffee sleeves (and then modified it as needed).

Then I just made this owl for fun cause I thought it was adorable! I originally made it to try and fit it on one of my coffee sleeves, but it was far too big, so I added hearts to that sleeve instead. Now I'll have to engineer a way to modify the owl so that it's the correct size. Can't be that hard right??

Right now the owl is sitting on our fireplace mantle... any creative thoughts on where to put it? Maybe on a shelf in a baby room one day... lol.

Next Projects: New Coffee Cozy
Tea Cozy
Afghan
